Our Latest "State of Emergency:" Cuomo as Il Duce.

 

Early last year, when COVID struck, New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo declared a "state of emergency" and assumed emergency, dictatorial powers to combat the pandemic.

He shut down New York State entirely, with massive disruptions to the economy, the working class and to the human need for socialization.

Cuomo then held near daily press conferences, to relay to the homebound public his strategies for combatting the disease.

These so impressed the daytime television industry that, along with shows about menopausal women, castrated husbands and their juvenile delinquent brats, Cuomo won an EMMY Award!

Heady with this success, Cuomo prompted his state employees to ghost a largely fictional, pretentious book about his successes in combatting COVID.

He hoped to make his mark in history with it, as inaccurate and untrue as it was, and that it should serve as a textbook on how to handle pandemics.

He got $5 million for the book deal.

Then it all began to go wrong.

His own staffers revealed that they had played down or altered the data regarding COVID deaths in nursing homes. They were far greater in number than were first alluded to.

That caused a bit of a scandal.

Then, a horde of Cuomo's female associates, with axes to grind, accused him of sexual harassment.

That caused a bigger scandal.

Even his own Democrat politicians called on him to resign and the process for impeachment began.

It is still dragging on.

As the spring of 2021 progressed into the summer, with the decline in the numbers of people infected by COVID and New York State gradually opening up and returning to a state of normalcy, some law givers wanted to end the state of emergency and strip Cuomo of his emergency powers.

That he declined to do.

He kept those powers until they expired last week. And Cuomo's exercise of those powers for more than a year whetted his appetite for more.

Yesterday, Cuomo declared another State of Emergency for New York State, this time to combat the sharp rise in gun violence here.

That had been going on for quite some time now, but with no apparent concern on his part..

This new State of Emergency was merely announced to restore the dictatorial powers that had lapsed last week.

A brief synopsis of the goals of the new State of Emergency is as follows:

To create more departments and agencies to coordinate state and local governments to combat gun violence; to make it tougher from criminals to buy weapons and to penalize gun manufacturers.

Creating more bureaucracy has never solved anything, except to provide family, friends and party operatives with lucrative employment.

Criminals pay no attention to laws anyway, so that part of it won't do anything, since they acquire their weapons illegally.

And it is illegal to penalize the gun industry for the criminal actions of people who possess them.

At no time did Cuomo address the catch and release program for criminals created by the progressive sponsored Bail Reform Act, which has been a major part of the problem.

Nor has he seriously considered sacking the Parole Board, which turns dangerous convicted felons loose on a whim, or even reforming that less than effective body.

He DOES want more local community involvement, meaning more committees that can legally serve as nothing more than nuisances or places to let off steam.

But communities have been letting off plenty of steam for a very long time.

Their elected officials really don't hear them.

And really, neither will Cuomo.

This whole "Stare of Emergency" nonsense is merely another grab for power by Cuomo, who will then have his staffers ghost another book for him about how he, alone, solved this crisis.

But nothing good will really come from his dictated actions, especially since the criminals will pay absolutely no attention to it.

Oh, well, at least Mussolini got the trains to run on time.

That, at least, was something.
