Ursula von der Leyen and the Definition of Stupidity.

Image
One definition of stupidity is "To repeat the same failed actions numerous times but expecting a different and successful result this time." The European Commission's head honcho and tough titty Ursula von der Leyen announced yesterday that she was imposing a 19th package of sanctions against Putin's Russia. This is supposed to somehow help to end Russia's war of aggression in the Ukraine. And the previous 18 package of sanctions against Putin's Russia? What did they accomplish? Why, absolutely nothing. Putin is winning the war in Ukraine. He has been unimpressed by the babbling of western European "democracies" since he forcibly annexed Crimea from Ukraine in 2014, and despite all 18 ensuing packages of sanctions, the European Union STILL does business with Russia, either directly or in a roundabout way. For that matter, so does the United States. So, what will the 19th package of sanctions do to hurt Russia? Why, absolutely nothing. And that is the...

RIP, NATO!

Image
The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) is effectively dead. Conceived to prevent further Soviet expansion in Europe and bankrolled largely by the United States, it was merely a paper tiger and rarely effective anywhere. It took NATO a good long time to counter Serbia's genocide against ethnic Albanians in Kosovo at the turn of the 21st century, while it ignored Serbia's similar attempts at genocide against Muslims in Bosnia Herzegovina (ethnic cleansing) just a few years earlier. Go figure. One can argue that neither case involved states or territories that were part of NATO, yet NATO ignored the one case but involved itself in the second. Which, quite frankly, could provide NATO with an excuse to intervene in Russia's war of aggression in Ukraine. If they had the balls to. Which they don't. Then, after 9-11 in the US, then President George W. Bush called upon NATO to make war against the terrorists based in Afghanistan who perpetrated that outrage. The result wa...

The Donald Would Waltz With the Trim Russian Bear and the War Dragged On!

Image
First of all, The Donald never solved any wars that he has taken credit for, which doesn't stop him from repeating that lie. Perhaps he hopes that if he repeats it enough it will become fact. We know that he is a narcissistic megalomaniac and a blowhard, ready to speak his mind in season and out, refusing to be influenced by the facts. Which means that he is delusional as well. Secondly, while he can bully weaker countries (most larger states do, whether or not you care to admit that), he has run into brick walls with China , India , Brazil and now Venezuela , who are not cowed by The Donald's tariff antics and saber-rattling. India, in particular, has faced The Donald's wrath for NOT bowing down to his demand that they cease purchasing Russian oil . They have been offended by The Donald's statement that India is responsible for the war in Ukraine by buying Russian oil and therefore keeping Russia's economy able to continue its military campaign. Never mind the fa...

The Circus Came to Town! Snow What and the Seven Dwarfs Came to Washington DC!

Image
It is the stuff of which high farce is made. One week ago, The Donald met with Russia's Vladimir Putin in Anchorage, Alaska. The purpose was to discuss Putin's war against Ukraine. Apart from Putin reiterating his demands for ending the war for the umpteenth time in public, on American soil, it accomplished nothing more than providing a phot op. So, death and destruction in Ukraine will continue. While The Donald hailed this meeting as "successful," "10 out of 10," all it did was show the world who the more powerful leader was. It wasn't The Donald. Then, heady with failure, The Donald got on the phone with Ukraine's Zelenskyy and summoned him to Washington DC in two days, informing him to wear a suit this time. The Donald and his cronies made much of the fact that Zelenskyy didn't wear a suit at the February ambush and sent Zelenskyy packing for not being suitably grateful or humble enough for previous US aid. Zelenskyy was also able to bring se...

Ursula von der Leyen and the Art of Unconditional Surrender!

Image
The European Union, at first glance, appears to be a powerful geo-political entity. Composed of most of the "democracies" of the Western European continent, including the economic powerhouse of Germany, it has tried to pose as one of the world's superpowers. Only it isn't. Comprised of frequently quarreling member states, possessed of a complicated and cumbersome constitutional framework that reveals its impotence daily in the European Parliament, its much-touted successes have always been dependent on the military might of the United States to protect it from itself and the threats to it posed by Russia and her allies. NATO was supposed to act as a deterrent to Russian aggression, at which it has failed repeatedly. Despite all of its economic and industrial potential, the European Union really only ranks as a second-rate power, although it has postured as something far greater. Until yesterday. European Union President Ursula von der Leyen surrendered unconditionally...

Hungary's Viktor Orban: "The Frogmouth" Redux!

Image
It's a case of life imitating art! "The Flintstones," an American cartoon series from the 1960's featured an episode titled "The Frogmouth." "The Frogmouth" was a stage play was about an unimportant, obnoxious, abrasive, loudmouth, and the director of the play felt that Fred Flintstone was a natural for the role. Fast forward to the 21st century, to real life in the real world. Hungary's Prime Minister, Viktor Orban, has become "The Frogmouth!" Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of frogmouths in the world of politics, especially among populists. US President Trump and Russia's President Putin are two such examples on the world stage. Along with China's President Xi, they are the three most powerful men in the world. They can afford to be rude, crude, abrasive and aggressive because there is nobody out there powerful enough to stop them or even effectively resist them. And then there's Viktor Orban, whose pretensions ...

Erdogan Orders the Arrest of the Mayor of Istanbul! Let's Talk Turkey!

Image
For a few brief shiny moments, it looked as if the President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, would be the solution for ending the war in Ukraine. Erdogan offered to provide the setting for negotiating the end of the war. He also stated that he had the manpower and the war materiel to act as a peacekeeper in Ukraine to act as a guarantor. In fact, Turkey's military is larger than that of anything the European Union can quickly muster (second only to NATO's dubious forces) and has been manufacturing and exporting weapons in huge quantities for years, some of which he sold to Ukraine. He has also been actively involved in Syria's civil war, which has provided his military with experience in war settings. At the same time, Erdogan has maintained relatively civil relations with Putin, refusing to enforce the European Union's sanctions against Russia while purchasing gas and oil from them. Meanwhile, Erdogan has stated that Ukraine's territorial integrity must be restore...

From Russia, With Love!

Image
Watching the leaders of the European Union and their associates scamper to organize ways to protect themselves in the wake of US President Donald Trump's deserting them would almost be amusing if the consequences weren't so catastrophic. As stated in previous blogs, the success of the European Union has always been predicated upon one thing: The USA. It was American money, war materiel and men that allowed for the EU's prosperity and quick expansion into the Eastern European states that were once part of the Soviet bloc. Similarly, those states were quickly admitted into NATO, the military alliance originally created to protect its member state from Soviet aggression. It gave the EU a false sense of security and the belief that the US would always provide support for them almost unquestioned. Given this mindset, the EU never imagined that they would have to protect themselves, hence their lack of coordination among its individual states' military and a complete lack of ...

"Sir" Keir Starmer's Summit to Aid Ukraine: A Study in Absurdity.

Image
"Sir" Keir Starmer, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, hosted a summit meeting in London on Sunday, the purpose of which was to come up with proposals to end the war in Ukraine that would leave that nation sovereign and independent. It was a study in absurdity, because the proposal that this meeting ultimately arrived at was to be presented to US President Donald Trump for his approval. That won't be forthcoming any time soon. President Trump and his vice president publicly humiliated Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Friday and the latter quickly left the White House and America to head to London for Starmer's summit meeting. President Trump made it clear that Zelenskyy had better come back begging for him to "settle" the war in Ukraine...under Russia's terms, which would effectively end Ukraine's independence. President Trump is clearly uninterested in Ukraine's survival or that of NATO or even of the European Union, which ...

Dreaming the Impossible Dream: Canada to Join the European Union?

Image
It looks like Canada's prime minister, pretty boy Justin Trudeau, is having a hissy fit.  The poster boy for woke progressive liberalism's failures, he was mocked by US President Trump, who suggested that he could become "governor" when Canada became the 51st state! Despite superficial outward appearances and similarities, Canada IS very different from the United States, politically, socially and economically. Those facts have been overlooked by President Trump, and despite his bombastic rhetoric on the subject, Canada would simply not fit in well with the United States as a constituent part. The political structure of Canada resembles the European parliamentary models, and it would be a complicated procedure to revamp them to fit the US's internal political structure. There are also the problems of French-speaking Quebec and the autonomous native Canadian territories to consider. President Trump's euphoria over his re-election perhaps caused him to ignore t...

The Presidential Election of 2024: And Lo, There shall Be An Ending!

Image
Yesterday's presidential election in the United States made history. In several different ways, much to the displeasure of woke progressive Democrats. For only the second time in US history, a president was re-elected to a non-consecutive term of office. The first time, Grover Cleveland accomplished that feat in 1892. Donald Trump did it yesterday, despite the tortured efforts of the Democratic National Committee, the corrupt Biden Regime and the equally corrupt Department of Justice to prevent him from running at all! They gambled and lost. And, for the second time in US history did the American people reject a DEI hire for president. The first time was a mere eight years ago when they rejected Billary Clinton of the Clinton Crime Family, whose claim to fame was that she was Monica Lewinsky's ex-lover's wife and another brilliant example of corruption in our body politic. Playing the sex card didn't work for her. Nor did it work for Sloppy Joe Biden's second banana...

Auld Lang Syne 2023 and Götterdämmerung 2024!

Image
2023 is winding down. It is now merely a few hours to the conclusion of a dismal year, one for which I am NOT nostalgic about. The world has gone mad. It has lost all sense of proportion, balance and humanity, all sense of law, order, morality and common sense. Madness on a global scale now reigns supreme and whom the gods would destroy they first make mad. But the gods, too, have lost a lot of their clout. What we have achieved is the onset of Götterdämmerung: the twilight of the gods. This will be followed by Ragnarok, where good and evil have their final clash, and all are destroyed. It will not be long in coming. And, really, there is nothing that anyone can do about it except to sit back and enjoy the final days of civilization. Let us begin with the global situation. Genocide is still occurring throughout the world, whether it be in China, Myanmar and Ruanda, to name only a few examples. Despite some rather tepid condemnations from the impotent, inept United Nations and a few so-...
