A "New World Order" or Ragnarok?
Ragnarok, or the Twilight of the Gods, was a central theme in Norse mythology.
It was preordained and all of the actions of the Norse gods centered around preparing for the final battle between good and evil.
The universe would be destroyed, including Midgard, the home of we mere mortals.
From the ashes would then arise a superior race of beings, greater than the gods and above the concepts of good and evil.
Let's fast forward to the present time.
The Trump regime in the United States has been promoting an agenda of isolationism while at the same time reserving for itself the right to interfere in global affairs where it suits them.
Most Americans support most of these actions.
And most Americans know that, despite his rabid patriotism (which we need after four years of Bidenism), The Donald is an abrasive, megalomaniacal loudmouth who demands his own way.
Woe betide anyone who refuses to capitulate before his bullying, because he IS the most powerful man in the world, and he knows it.
So does the world.
This is the new world order as he sees it.
Therefore, President Trump requires special handling by anyone who comes into his presence.
When "Sir" Keir Starmer of the UK and President Macron of France came to Washington this week, making their penitential pilgrimage to Canossa, as it were, they walked away with nothing.
They simply weren't important enough for him.
It was even worse for Ukraine's President Zelenskyy when he came to Washington on Friday.
Walking into a trap, and documented for posterity by news crews, Zelenskyy was subject to the most brutal insults by President Trump and Vice-President Vance, even regarding his mode of dress.
Zelenskyy was blamed for starting the war, when Russia did.
Zelenskyy was blamed for prolonging the war, because he wouldn't capitulate to Putin...or to Trump.
Zelenskyy was accused of not being grateful enough to the US, when he always thanked America for its aid.
Admittedly, he always came back for more.
And he didn't hang down his head in shame and submission when faced with the verbal assault by President Trump and Vice-President Vance.
That's what angered them.
Love him or hate him, you had to have some sympathy for Zelenskyy, who left the meeting, which resulted in the press conference afterward being canceled.
Perhaps Zelenskyy was too naive to understand that arrogance, moral and political ambiguity and rudeness is the prerogative of the stronger power, and he had been too accustomed to near universal praise in the last few years to understand that he was dealing with a different sort of American president.
Of course, the conservative media claimed that he was kicked out.
But then, they need to support Trump, who is clearly supporting Russia here and that will ultimately lead to Ukraine's eventual incorporation into Russia.
While the Trump regime is aware of this, they simply do not care what happens in Ukraine...or Europe, for that matter.
In this case, the Trump regime outsmarted itself, because Zelenskyy left without signing the trade deal giving $500 billion in rare earth minerals to the US.
Most of the "democratic" world blasted Trump for this set up.
One even claimed that the position of leader of the free world is vacant.
Zelenskyy immediately traveled to London, where "Sir" Keir Starmer promised him $5 billion in aid...and ground troops (maybe) to help secure the "peace."
The UK's economy and military are in no position to fulfill these promises.
Macron has already suggested sending in French troops with something similar in mind but given the chaotic state of France's government at present, it's doubtful that it will happen.
On the other hand, the current head of NATO, Mark Rutte, formerly Dutch Prime Minister, didn't praise Zelenskyy.
Rutte condemned him and suggested that he go back to Washington, cap in hand and on his knees begging Trump's forgiveness.
Rutte is largely unconcerned about Ukraine. His interest is merely to remain in power as NATO's chief and fears that Trump will pull out of NATO, which will effectively cause it to collapse. So, he is keen that everyone make nice with Trump, even if it is not in their long-term interests because its existence benefits him.
And, oddly enough, Turkey's President Erdogan has suggested brokering a peace conference at which Ukraine and the European Union will have a place, unlike the current meetings attended only of the US and Russia.
Why would Erdogan do this, especially since he has been playing with both Russia and the Ukraine during their conflict?
Very simple. He refuses to allow Russia to strengthen itself in the Black Sea area.
There has long been an antipathy between Russia and Turkey since the days of the Ottoman Empire.
Russia has always wanted the Straits, which controls entrance into the Black Sea, and the Turks have had possession of them since Constantinople fell in 1453.
Russia fought many wars with Turkey, winning all but one of them.
Modern Turkey is still wary of Russia's ambitions in her backyard and is a member of NATO.
President Erdogan also has wanted to join the European Union, but the Union looks askance at the Turkish economy, Erdogan's involvement in the Syrian Civil War and his horrendous human rights violations regarding the Kurdish minority, journalists, political opposition and activists.
Yet Erdogan has an active military force larger than that of the entire European Union combined and could easily provide the security force Ukraine would so desperately need if peace ever occurs.
Even more interesting is that Erdogan demand the return of Ukraine's pre-2014 borders, which means that Russia would have to give up Crimea as well.
He even stated that he wants Ukraine to join the EU and NATO!
And Erdogan has also stated continuously that the world, and Europe, needs to distance itself from Washington.
Whish is, of course, what President Trump says he wants...but on his terms.
And the price for Turkey's willingness to help Ukraine, because Erdogan isn't doing this out of the kindness of his heart?
Why, ultimately, admission into the EU!
Frankly, the European Union had better take up Erdogan's offer because they are really unable to come up with any effective way to impose themselves on any other peace agreement.
That's because the member states of the EU have gotten lazy and grown too accustomed to the US providing them with the security they needed to prosper.
THAT is clearly coming to a screeching halt under Trump.
They've had eleven years to prepare for Putin's expansionism since they invaded and annexed Crimea, and Erdogan's dynamism could provide the solution that the EU clearly is incapable of.
The new world order of Trump's vision is quickly becoming a reality.
The US is the most powerful power in the world and is now planning to isolate itself from the rest of the world and interfere only where it perceives that its interests are threatened
It will ride roughshod over lesser powers in its way.
It will deal only with equally powerful and arrogant foreign leaders like Putin.
Europe is to be sacrificed, and Ukraine will be the first victim, while China is seen as the new enemy, not Russia.
The trans-Atlantic Alliance is coming to an end. So is NATO. Europe is being left to its own devices and the US is swiftly becoming "Festung Amerika."
Whether or not that will actually benefit the US is yet to be seen.
But the lines are being drawn. Whether or not they are between good and evil is of one's own opinion.
And we should start watching out for Valkyries!
