Promises, Promises: The Trump-Putin Bromance Continues!
The story is as old as time.
An inexperienced, rather naive man attempts to attract the attention of an older, experienced courtesan by giving her everything she asks for.
She, in return, gives him little, if anything. Not even a tickle.
Such is the ongoing Bromance between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, with Putin playing the role of the courtesan.
It has provided the world with much hilarity as well as revulsion.
It has also made the US President look rather stupid before the entire world, especially since he is way too old to play the moonstruck young man falling for the charms of an aging hooker.
The world waited with anticipation the outcome of the scheduled phone call between President Trump and Putin today, regarding a 30-day ceasefire in Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine.
Ukraine has already stated that it would agree to such a ceasefire if Putin did.
Instead, Putin graciously said that he would agree to a ceasefire only regarding infrastructure and power plants.
The war on the ground, sea and air would continue.
Putin also stated that his phone call with President Trump has done much to end the war in Ukraine.
To drive this point home, Putin sent drones to bomb Ukraine's capital city of Kiev, killing civilians.
Are we getting the drift here?
Putin has no intention of stopping the war, the killing and the destruction.
His word means nothing.
As for the Trump administration, their PR teams are busily putting a spin on this, claiming that it a step towards peace.
Only it isn't.
President Trump has already supported Putin's claims against Ukraine, effectively turning over Ukraine to Putin in any US sponsored "peace settlement."
Unfortunately for both Trump and Putin, the European Union and associated states like Canada, Turkey and Norway are ramping up militarily to prevent Ukraine's absorption into Russia.
They are losing their faith in the US as being a leader for worldwide democratic institutions and peace.
President Trump doesn't care about that, but the fact that Europe is not going on bended knee and crying "Uncle" before him bugs him and his administration more than somewhat.
As for Putin, he has never cared what anyone thinks about him.
He doesn't need to. Nobody in Russia dares to oppose him and all of the sanctions imposed by the western "democracies" against Russia haven't really stopped his ability to wage war and kill civilians as well as soldiers.
Since Putin's invasion of Ukraine began in 2022, the liberal western media predicted a grim future...for Russia!
Putin, was ill; he was dying; Russia's economy was collapsing; Putin was losing too many soldiers and too much war materiel; Putin would be overthrown.
None of that happened, which suggests that most of that media hype was more wishful thinking than anything else.
Perhaps that's what President Trump finds so alluring about President Putin: Putin's ability to survive in the face of these dire predictions about him and his regime.
Then there's Putin's ability to get re-elected for the last 25 years, while US law limits the American president to only two terms.
And this is President Trump's second and final term.
As for peace in Ukraine, that is up to Putin, NOT President Trump.
It has become increasingly clear that it is not within President Trump's ability to broker a peace deal that leaves Ukraine standing as a sovereign, independent state with control over its own affairs.
So his team is spinning the situation to pretend that the American president can influence Putin towards "peace."
But nobody can.
And this unnatural and unhealthy bromance between the two of them will merely prolong the agony in Ukraine.
As well as make President Trump's "New world Order" look as though it were staged by The Three Stooges.
Ain't love grand?
