A Third Term for President Trump? That is NO April Fool's Day Joke!

For the last few days, US President Donald Trump has been hinting rather broadly that he might serve for a third term as president.

When questioned about this and told that it would be impossible because the 22nd amendment limits the presidency to two terms only, President Trump replied that such things could be managed.

He was not specific about HOW such things might be managed, because it would be unconstitutional, and therefore illegal for him to attempt a third presidential campaign.

To overturn the 22nd amendment would require a two-thirds majority in BOTH the House and the Senate in support of such a measure.

The Republicans simply do not have those numbers in Congress and doubtless will lose seats in both Houses during the mid-term elections next year.

So that legal route to scrap presidential term limits is closed.

It is particularly ironic since the 22nd amendment limiting presidential term limits was the product of the Republican Party itself, to prevent a repetition of Democrat Franklin D. Roosevelt winning FOUR terms in office.

Now it has come back, full circle upon them, and the hypocrisy of such an attempt by a megalomaniacal US president looking to change that to soothe his own ego, with the hyenas gathered around him cheering him on is beneath contempt.

That leaves only one alternative open to President Trump to extend his regime beyond two terms: A military coup that would declare him to be "President for Life."

For all intents and purposes, that is the current leadership situation in Russia and Turkey, and President Trump envies that.

This has also been a frequent occurrence in many third-world countries, the sort of thing that western "democracies" often complain, but can do nothing about.

Furthermore, since President Trump really has no sense of humor, we really can't consider his musing over a third term in office as an April Fool's Day joke.

Unless, of course, the joke is on the American people.
