Sandra Doorley Resigns! Toot, Toot Tootsie, Goodbye!
Controversial Monroe County District Attorney Sandra Doorley announced her resignation earlier this week.
Monroe County NY includes the dying City of Rochester.
In a rather mawkishly sentimental statement, she announced that, at 62, it was time for her to ride off into the sunset.
Many people would argue that she should have left a long time ago.
But, at 62, with 33 years in the DA's Office, and 13 of them as its head honcho, she will be able to collect a healthy pension in full.
Monroe County's first female District Attorney is most famous for offering "The Deal," by which violent criminals and white-collar felons are allowed to plead down to lesser charges for reduced sentences.
This allowed her to clear her books and state that "Justice has been done."
Only it hasn't been.
One example consists of a young man who intentionally murdered and seriously wounded two other young men over the space of a year.
He was allowed to plead guilty to manslaughter, which carries a far lesser penalty than intentional homicide, of which he WAS guilty.
Twice.
I have covered that in a previous blog.
Then there was the case of ex-mayor Lovely Warren, the ultimate expression of making a good deal.
I have covered that in a previous blog as well.
Simply put, ex-Mayor Warren was charged with a couple of misdemeanors in one instance, and three or more felonies in another.
Sandra Doorley worked out a deal by which ex-Mayor Warren would plead guilty to ONE misdemeanor, while all other charges, including the felonies would be lumped into that and hopefully forgotten
By this deal, ex-Mayor Warren kept her law license, her pension and the right to run for other elections in exchange for the aforementioned guilty plea.
Ex-Mayor Warren was also to resign as Mayor of Rochester (she had already lost the Democratic Primary Election, anyway) as part of the deal.
Ex-Mayor Warren promptly did just that, two months later, with just 30 days remaining in her term of office.
Big deal.
Doorley never bothered to mention that in her turgid resignation statement.
She also never bothered to mention the real reason she is resigning as District Attorney.
Her own public scandal.
As I have covered that in depth, too, in a previous blog, I will provide only a brief recap here.
While driving to her home in suburban Webster NY, a Webster police officer stopped her for speeding.
She tried the "Do you know who I am tactic" on the police officer, while contacting the Town of Webster Police Chief, whose number she had on speed dial.
Apparently, she had found it necessary to contact Webster's police chief about similar previous situations, which were then promptly hushed up.
Unfortunately for Doorley, this time the police officer was wearing a body cam, which captured the entire episode.
Rumors of an incident involving Doorley quickly spread, and a citizen made a FOIL request for the information off of the police officer's body cam.
Doorley couldn't make the issue disappear.
So, she was forced to issue a public apology to the police officer who ticketed her for speeding, which didn't solve anything.
It merely tarnished an already dubious reputation.
And caused the powers that be to look into her behavior in this incident.
They refused to consider charges against her.
One win for Doorley.
However, the Commission on Prosecutorial Conduct was not so accommodating.
Completing their investigation last month, that body recommended public censure, whereupon Doorley said that she would resign,
She never mentioned that, either.
Other interesting bits of trivia are that, as soon as the public got riled by her behavior last year after she received the speeding ticket (which she DID pay, at least), she promptly sold her house in Webster and bought two properties in Charleston County, South Carolina.
Doorley's husband is already living in South Carolina.
I guess distance makes the heart grow fonder.
So, putting all of the bullshit aside in Doorley's resignation speech, it boils down to this: She was caught out. She was planning her escape route to avoid censure, and when public censure was ultimately looming, she announced her resignation/retirement.
But how can you save face when you have already lost face?
In the long run, Doorley is just one of a long parade of elected officials in the Rochester, New York area that fled when they left office.
She is now in the august company of Tim Mains, Bill Pritchard, Matt Haag, Molly Clifford, tony Micciche and others, who left this area after having made it a worse place in which to live.
The worst of it is that with Doorley's resignation, our Toxic She-Devil of a governor, Kathy Hochul, will appoint someone to replace her until the next election for the DA's office.
And God only knows what monster of woke progressivism Hochul will install.
