Anthony Hall needs no introduction to anyone who has been following the ongoing clown show that is Rochester's City Government for the last fifteen years. An arrogant anti-cop bully and a self-proclaimed "Youth Intervention Gang Specialist" who exhibited the same sort of behavior City Government hired him to eliminate, Hall has been described by Rochester's Democrat and Chronicle as being known for his "community advocacy work," as well as being the director of the perpetually failing antiviolence Pathways to Peace" program. Pope Francis, the Bishop of Rome and spiritual leader of more than a billion Roman Catholics around the world, died on Monday. He was 88 years old and in poor health for some time. Pope Francis died shortly after meeting with US Vice President JD Vance, himself a covert to Roman Catholicism. What effect that might have had on the Pope's health is anyone's guess. But as soon as the Pope was dead, the Vatican's PR team immediately sprang into action to sing his praises. As a lapsed Catholic who had been subjected to the rigors of a Catholic primary school education, I have long disregarded the importance of anything the Popes said or did. It's quite apparent that most "devout" Roman Catholics do the same but haven't got the courage of their convictions to say so. Yesterday was Palm Sunday. It was the start of what some Christian sects refer to as "Holy Week," culminating on Easter Sunday next week. To mark this religious occasion, Russia's Putin bombed a bus full of Ukrainians on their way to church. You didn't know that Putin was very religious, did you? This is merely one incident in the ongoing Russian aggression against Ukraine with no end in sight, despite President Trump's claim that he is working with Putin to end the war. But Putin is clearly paying Trump no attention. Not really. Meanwhile, in the Holy Land, Israel was continuing to demolish the Gaza Strip, forcing innocent Palestinian men, women and children to be constantly on the move as they are shuffled about by the Israeli military "for their own good" and to avoid casualties. It is that time of the year again. Easter is upon us. It when Easter Bunnies mate with chickens, who then produce hard-boiled, festively colored eggs. Easter Bunnies then add those eggs to baskets also filled with chocolate and other candies, which they then give to children. Mothers then make egg-salad out of the Easter eggs, while children quickly get a sugar high and start bouncing off of the walls because they ate way too much candy. Sometimes the Easter Bunnies hide the eggs, prompting children to engage in contests to see how many eggs they can find. As I understand it, Christian religions hold Easter in high regard for its spiritual connotations, but that is not the subject of this blog, nor do merchandisers promote that aspect on their advertisements for Easter-type accessories. Yes, it is all great family fun. What isn't fun is what pertains to Easter Bunnies themselves. Some people insist on giving Easter Bunnies as gifts. Yes, they are cute and lovable, but they are not ...

The liberal news media in the United States had a field day this weekend. Apparently, there was no other news that they chose to devote much copy to. The fringe element in US society chose to protest the Trump Administration. There were protests across America, planned in advance and not exactly spontaneous. The slogan the protesters used, among others, was "Hands off our rights." My hometown, the dying city of Rochester, New York, had its protests, too. The local news media reported that thousands of people had congregated in Cobbs Hill Park for the protest. Looking at the photos and videos of the event, that number was more likely in the hundreds. The upper hundreds, to be sure, but not as massive as they liked to claim. They also claimed that there were thousands of people protesting in the Town and Village of Livonia, a suburb of Rochester. The total population of that town and village is slightly over 7,000 souls. Hmmm... Was anyone staying at home in Livonia? And, of co...

For the last few days, US President Donald Trump has been hinting rather broadly that he might serve for a third term as president. When questioned about this and told that it would be impossible because the 22nd amendment limits the presidency to two terms only, President Trump replied that such things could be managed. He was not specific about HOW such things might be managed, because it would be unconstitutional, and therefore illegal for him to attempt a third presidential campaign. To overturn the 22nd amendment would require a two-thirds majority in BOTH the House and the Senate in support of such a measure. The Republicans simply do not have those numbers in Congress and doubtless will lose seats in both Houses during the mid-term elections next year. So that legal route to scrap presidential term limits is closed.
